Back Story

The Suddenly Sleepy 5K Sleepwalk was founded in 2018 by “Chef Andre Royal” to raise funds to help those affected by Narcolepsy and various sleep disorders.

In 2019 “Suddenly Sleepy” became an Oregon Nonprofit 501 (c)(3) that now provides fun and engaging ways to support educational opportunities and continues to raise awareness of the importance of quality sleep as a quality of life issue.

Lack of quality sleep is becoming much more recognized as it affects not just those who’ve been diagnosed with sleep disorders such as Narcolepsy- but is important to the overall health and wellness of the community as a whole.

Mission

We host "Family Friendly Events" throughout communities locally and abroad staging giveaways to other youth centered outreach programs such as the Little BIG Library & Little BIG Garden.

Suddenly Sleepy provides FREE activities for varying ages, abilities and cognition levels, "improving access" to low-cost to no cost platinum award winning books published by Founders, Chef Andre Royal & Illustrator Andre Royal Jr.

Books will be dispursed throughout the State of Oregon especially focusing on outreach in urban & rural  areas.

Underserved communities (culturally and socioeconomically) including those with rare health conditions are traditionally underserved.

By advocating and raising awareness for health & wellness education needs currently underrepresented serves to improve educational outcomes.

Our "Adventure kits" help create accessible spaces where diverse communities feel like they belong and the overall environment benefits through intersectionality and self acceptance.

The  underlying goal is reducing stigma and potential bullying with interactive, fun and engaging content that not only educates but may help prevent underdiagnosis and misinformation.

We're not just raising awareness we are raising community standards for support and allocated resources.
